Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore, and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region. With Trillium Foundation support, FMR is advancing its Environmental Stewardship Institute (ESI), an immersive and interdisciplinary environmental leadership development program targeting BIPOC and underserved youth. ESI engages young people in learning about local environmental issues, developing professional skills and career pathways, gaining paid job experiences, and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
