Program Goal: 

To resource leaders in climate and racial justice movements to heal, repair, connect, and thrive within and outside of existing systems. The Trillium Family Foundation is investing in leadership development to increase civic participation and engagement to advance racial equity and climate/environmental solutions in Minnesota or Wyoming.

We recognize that restoring healthy relationships with life and land, building connections and moving forward together is a critical effort. This grant program is a result of a new strategic approach informed by engaging with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color community leaders doing racial equity and climate/environmental work in Minnesota and Wyoming.


Program Details

  • Eligible organizations will be located in or have an active presence in Minnesota or Wyoming

  • Eligible Applicants include 501c3 nonprofits, public charities and organizations or programs with a fiscal sponsor

  • $600,000 total available across two years

  • Average grants will be $20,000 - $50,000 per year per grantee

  • Preference given to organizations with majority leadership (staff and board) from BIPOC and/or rural communities most impacted by the issues your organization seeks to solve


Areas of interest might include, but are not limited to:

  • Initiatives to strengthen/support tribal leadership and governance to uphold treaty rights

  • Efforts where rural communities and/or communities of color are leading and shaping climate solutions

  • Organizations that build capacity for or increase civic engagement among BIPOC communities and/or rural communities

  • Work at the intersection of racial and climate justice

  • Leadership development for rural and BIPOC individuals, including youth. Highlighting and supporting the problem solvers most impacted by racial inequities and climate change

  • And more…
